GIZ and the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA) formalised their cooperation for the development of a digital identity platform

GIZ and the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the framework of the project Innovation and Digitalisation in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises/EU4DigitalSME, which is co-funded by the European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany. The signing of the MoU represents a formalisation of cooperation and provision of support to the development of a digital identity platform for the purpose of biometric authentication.

The support aims to ensure the integration of the platform in the existing central IDDEEA system for the biometric register and identity data register, as well as the existing central IDDEEA cloud system for the issuance of e-certificates and creation of e-signatures.

The digital identity platform, which will be used throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, will provide key services, such as e-signatures and e-wallets. As a result, beneficiaries will manage and use their digital identity in a simple, secure and efficient manner. The platform will enable individuals to achieve a better control and access to their digital transactions and interactions related to their personal identity.

“The project Innovation and Digitalisation in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises supports the development and implementation of different digital solutions and services for improving the competitiveness of business operations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In this context, e-signature is the key step towards the digitalisation of business operations and may be the basis for different digital services developed by the private sector – such as in the field of e-commerce or various platform solutions. We are therefore truly grateful for the cooperation with IDDEEA and the implementation of e-signature, in relation to which our project will support the initial phase”, said Eva Näher, GIZ Programme Manager

The Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA) is an administrative organisation of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina in charge of identification documents, keeping, personalisation and transport of documents, as well as keeping of a central register and exchange of data between the competent authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Almir Badnjević, Head of the Agency for Identification Documents, Registers and Data Exchange of Bosnia and Herzegovina (IDDEEA), said that the purpose was to facilitate access to e-services for all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which, in addition to improved efficiency of administrative processes, also promotes digital inclusion and economic development.

“We are looking forward to our first opportunity to cooperate with GIZ. We are happy that another international partner, such as GIZ, has recognised our work and the potential of our project and decided to support IDDEEA BiH. Such a support will play a crucial role in accelerating the introduction of e-services, which will enable our citizens to use state-of-art technology in daily life in a faster and more efficient manner”, said Badnjević.

The project “Innovation and Digitalisation in Small and Medium-sized Enterprises in Bosnia and Herzegovina/EU4DigitalSME” that is co-funded by the European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany aims to create a conducive environment for the technological transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises in competitive sectors through improved access to innovation technologies, skills and services.
